Il mio blog questa settimana è dedicato a Robby Naish, il mito del windsurf e dei water sport che compie 50 anni e che ancora ci delizia con le sue surfate, le sue manovre i suoi salti in acqua.
Per lui, oltre all’amicizia personale in quasi quattro decenni vissuti vicini in tutti gli angoli del mondo, c’è una stima e gratitudine per ciò che ha fatto e continua a fare nel nostro sport più amato, con professionalità eccelsa, modestia e stile incommensurabile.
Ecco la mia lettera aperta a Robby, recapitata via FB, in inglese ovviamente. Credo rispecchi il pensiero di tanti appassionati che l’hanno conosciuto solo dai video e dai giornali e non hanno avuto la fortuna che ho avuto io di conoscerlo anche nella vita privata.
Dear Robby,
my chief, happy beloved 50 years !
It’s a couple of years that I’m thinking about this day and how much I would have loved to celebrate with you in Maui or Oahu.
50 is a big bang, it’s like the middle point of our life.
And you have being an important part in my life and in the life of all the people that have being loving windsurfing.
Unfortunatly I’m in Sardinia right now (going back in New York, where I’m living, in a few days) and I don’t know if you are celebrating in Haiku or Kailua.
If you are just with sweet Katie and Kristina or if you have your closest friends around.
Wherever you are, Robby, I just want to thank you for all the happiness and emotions you have create for me in 35 years. We met when we were teen agers, I followed and cheered for you for 20 years in competitions and 15 mores in your attempt of ‘impossible retirement’ .
I always admired you for your decision in life, your strenght in family and business and for the unbelievable style of your actions. Actually I appreciated you more when you where n. 2 than n. 1, when you started to loosing up a little bit and being more friendly with us and still always best ambassador of our sport.
Cheers chief, life continues at 50 on a different page, looking our folks getting old and our kids growing fast. I hope to see you next fall when I’ll be in Maui for a few weeks and I hope you can come visit Sardinia again in the near future. A big hug to you and Katie from Mc Porc
